For '83 the Chevette got their very last facelift, which included the front spoiler, rubber-endcapped bumpers and the deletion of almost all chrome except the thin stripe around the now-black grille. From there out to 1987 the only appearance changes were colors and seat fabrics, the govt mandated 3rd brake light for the '86 model year and a take rate for whitewalls that dropped to basically zero as the first-new-car target demo thought they were fogeyish and hardly a "plus" feature.

I could also move my chevette out of a snow bank if i slid into one with no issues, it was light enough i could put it in neutral and roll it out by myself, i was impressed with that little car,and i couldn't do that with my escort i owned before my chevette.

Here's an odd thing about my chevette, i would start it, remove the key and it was still running, i met someone recently who has a 4 door and his does the same thing? Just wondering if that was a normal flaw with all Chevettes?

I owned a 1984 chevette s automatic hatchback and loved it, it could carry 4 bales of hay, 100 pounds of grain, my greyhound and myself with no issues.It would start no matter if it was freezing outside, and got great gas mileage! Mine was cream colored with black vinyl seats and black carpet.

Offering an even slower and louder diesel in the Chevette was just cruel. They should have made automatic + airconditioning mandatory to finish the deal. The car would have gone backwards when you turned on the AC.

By 85 this car and 1000 were painfully out of date.everybody else had better options..and had them for years.

We shot this as Little Rissington Airfield. Production company was Beechurst Film Productions, director Peter Levelle. Stunt team was 'Team Remy Julliane' famous for numerous car stunts on the Bond Franchise. Hottest day of the year but was great fun to shoot, as you might imagine.

Vauxhall needs to bring back the Firenza and keep the look of the droop snoot but build it to modern standards and it should have a 2 litre turbo petrol engine with 300-350hp and price it around £25k to £30k. ❤

The Chevette is to cars what Huffy is to bicycles. Tough sounding but ultimately not very good. Bargain basement and it'll never let you forget it. I'm not trying to bash or troll Chevette lovers but by 1985 this car was very much behind the times (you could argue it wasn't great in 1976.) The organization I worked for in college during the early 1990s had a couple of 1985 Chevettes as fleet cars. Granted these were older, well-used - but also well-maintained - cars by this time. I have to say that the Chevette was the worst car I have every driven, before or since. I found the car to be slow, uncomfortable, noisy, and had 1970s Fisher-Price plastics on the dashboard. At least it was hard-wearing, I suppose, but the rear wheel drive was not ideal for Northeast weather. No wonder they were always the last vehicles to be snapped up at the motor pool. The Chevette represented basic transportation at its best (or worst). I must finally add that I love these old, nostalgic videos. You never see any Chevettes these days, or many cars from the 1980s, so it's fun to see them preserved on the interweb.

I'm a REME Veteran. Absolutely loved the TM! Great to drive, easy to work on. Also, as mentioned in the film, pretty good acceleration. Always felt it was a shame they had a restricter on the top speed!
